FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What will they ask me in interview? No questions will be asked that are political, news related or touchy subjects. Questions could include - Tell me about yourself, What are your hobbies, ambitions, goals, Who is your role model, What is the most important thing a title holder can do, If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be and why, If you could have a superpower what would it be, etc. Google "sample pageant questions" to get an idea. Should I bring back-up outfits? You can - due to weight fluctuation, etc, but you don't need to, however the closet in the room is small. A good idea is to bring an inexpensive rolling rack from Target or Walmart, hang your outfits in order with jewelry in a plastic bag on the outfit's hanger and shoes underneath. What will we do for meals? There is a restaurant in the lobby. There is also a great store with frozen food, snacks, etc next to the front desk. You are also next to Katy Mills Mall and many restaurants. There is a fridge and microwave in your room. You can bring anything microwaveable. Don't forget some bottled water! What is a platform? How do I find volunteer work? A Platform is a "theme" for an area of volunteer work, community service, or awareness. Many contestants brainstorm to find a theme for their work and come up with something unique. Examples of some of our Queen's current themes: Little Acts of Love (Spokesmodel Kelli), Active Aging (Ambassador YMI Jacquelynn), CARAcares (Cara, YAMI Ambassador), Others don't have a name for their platform, but join one that is already established. For example you can volunteer at different walks/runs/golf tournemants, United Way events, Breast Cancer Awareness events, etc. You can choose to have canned food drives for a local food pantry, collect socks or coats for a homeless shelter, collect towels and treats for an animal shelter. or make cards for an assisted living facility. Even young children can participate in volunteer work. Take a look at needs in your community and get started today! Be sure to make a Facebook page dedicated to how you Aspire to Inspire and include lots of photos. Send the link to Ms. Sabrina! Do I need a platform or volunteer work to be in the pageant? No, but we encourage our delegates to live our motto, "Aspire to Inspire." My daughter is 5 years old. What kind of volunteer work can she do? There are a lot of fun opportunities for even young contestants to help their community! Handmade cards are always welcome for every holiday at assisted living facilities. Colorasmile.org accepts drawings and artwork from children. Young queens can collect canned goods for a food pantry from family, friends and neighbors. Ask for opportunities at churches and VFW halls. Local 5K's need people to hand out water or cheer runners on. What is the tea party all about? YAMI Presents "Tea at the Royal Regalia" is a fun party Saturday night that is free for all contestants. There will be games, dancing and prizes. Contestants can come dressed in an Alice in Wonderland costume (any character) or a tea party dress. Trophies for best costume and fun photo opportunities plus some really cool door prizes! |
![]() ![]() | What will the stage look like? Will I be able to practice? Yes, you will have time to "walk the X's" on stage and practice during rehearsal Friday morning. Stage setup is pictured at left. You will enter behind the curtains. There is an opening in the curtains at X1. That is the first look the judges will see of your outfit, confidence and smile! TAKE YOUR TIME. You may strike several poses, pivot, or turn in a circle at each X. Take note where Mr. Marcus our photographer is and where the judging tables are. When you reach X4, STOP take time to look at each judges table and Mr. Marcus, and either pivot or turn in a circle so everyone gets a chance to see the back of your outfit. Don't forget to stop at X5. This is the last look everyone will get. After you exit, proceed to the back of the room and exit out the side door to change for your next event. If you have time you are welcome to stay and watch your friends on stage! I have no modeling experience. Is someone available to help me? Yes! We have wonderful Lifetime Queens and Queens not competing who can help. Don't be surprised if our current Queens competing in Alumni reach out to help too - everyone in our system is super nice and helpful. They will give you tips and tricks to look your best and be confident. Last year's highest scoring contestant, our Spokesmodel, is a Nurse - not a model! She watched other contestants and asked for help and modeled her skills after watching others. Formal wear - slow, elegant. Runway wear - fun, more energy. All optionals - model the category/outfit with confidence. What is the door decorating contest all about? Trophies will be given for the best decorated door! Turn your room number in at Registration. Judging is Saturday Night. There is no theme this year so Get Creative! |
